Grilled Flank Steak with Grumpy’s BBQ Sauce

There are lots of ways to prepare a marinade and make a BBQ sauce for grilling flank steak. But if you want to save time and have the delicious consistency of an award winning sauce give Grumpy’s BBQ sauce a try. In this recipe we are using flank steak but basically the same great flavor can be accomplished with just about any cut of meat, even chicken, pork and fish.

Ingredients:

2 lbs flank steak, trimmed of excess fat
1/2 cup olive oil
4 tbs red wine vinegar
1 garlic clove, minced
1 shallot, medium sized, chopped

1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 18 oz Grumpy’s BBQ Sauce (Not so bold, bold, XX black label or Good night loving)

Instructions:

1. Combine and mix all the ingredients in a bowl except for the flank steak and the Grumpy’s BBQ Sauce.

2. Rinse the flank steak under cool water and pat dry. Place the flank steak in a large baggie. Pour the marinade mixture over the meat and turn the meat so it is fully coated, Press out as much air as possible and then seal the baggie. Refrigerate for a couple of hours or preferably overnight before cooking. (we prefer baggies to baking dishes. You will not need to make as much marinade to cover the meat)

3. Prepare the grill and bring it to a medium high heat. Remove the flank steak from the refrigerator a half hour before grilling to reach room temperature. Place the steaks on the grill and pour the remaining marinade into a small sauce pan.

4. Place a half cup of Grumpy’s sauce in a small container. Grill the flank steak for approximately four minutes on the first side. Once the steak is turned use a basting brush to paint the sauce on the grilled side of the steak and cook for four more minutes. Flip the steak again and paint the remaining sauce on the steak and complete the grilling for about one more minute The meat when sliced should still have a pink color on the inside with good grill marks on the outside. Remove from the heat and plate.

5. Place all the remaining barbecue sauce from the jar into the pan with the reserved marinade onto a stove top and bring to boil. Cook and stir for three minutes. Either pour some of the sauce directly onto the meat and serve or place in a sauce boat to be served at the table.
